Therapy at Fernwood Counseling

Fernwood Counseling

New to therapy or looking for something new? Read this section to learn more about some of the therapeutic techniques you might encounter in the office at Fernwood Counseling.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)  is a therapy that helps the brain reprocess trauma by working through difficult experiences while engaging both sides of the brain at the same time. Since different areas of our brain process different things (for example, logic and emotions are in different areas), engaging more of your brain while processing events of life has been found to be beneficial for many people. EMDR is evidence based (proven to be effective via research) and a highly sought after form of therapy.

EFT

Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) involves tapping what are traditionally acupressure points on our body while focusing on difficult emotions in order to relieve distress caused by the difficult emotions. It is a therapeutic technique that can be taught and practiced in office, but also used at home to help cope with difficult emotions. It is excellent for reducing stress, anxiety, or other forms of distress - even anger.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) looks at how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors intertwine in order to decipher where change could start within those areas and step into that change.

SFBT

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a goal focused therapy that encourages our brain to focus on positives, or solutions, in order to work towards where we want to be.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy has a focus on seeing our life stories from a new view to help us move forward.
